It’s 1957 when blunt and gutsy Dr. Ebba Stockmann returns to her unruly hometown – that’s still smarting from a series of brutal labor battles. She's been hired as health officer for the new mineral baths and spa that are central to the town’s hopes for revitalization. But before she can unpack her bags, Ebba’s new boss is found slumped over his desk - dead. Suspecting foul play but getting nowhere with local police, she recruits the town’s newspaper editor for a winding investigation that cracks open widespread issues of corruption, contamination, and complacency.
